Character Poem

This is another poem my english teacher assigned.

I am Jimmy Cross

I am a harsh cord of love
I wonder when I will see your star eyes again
I hear the bells of heaven ringing in your voice
I see the cool blue beach we use to go to
I want this war to end so I can see you
I am a harsh cord of love

I pretend to be a leader
I feel my heart beating a drum of love
I touch the small peble of memories you gave me
I worry that I might see the face of death before I see you
I cry if I think of you with another man
I am a harsh cord of love

I understand from you "dear John" letters that we are just friends
I say that you are just hiding your true feelings
I dream of our silhouettes walking together on the beach
I try to hold on to the rope of life
I hope you are still a pure virgin
I am a harsh cord of love

I am poem

This is an assignment my english teacher had given me.

I am an empty apartment
I wonder how much longer the support beams will hold me up
I hear the echo of mice squeaks
I see the crumbling white wall with broken picture frames
I want these beams restored
I am an empty apartment

I pretend to be full of the music of life
I feel abandoned and frozen
I touch a wide crack on the ceiling
I worry I will be knocked down by the bully bulldozer
I cry because I will be torn down soon
I am an empty apartment

I understand people come and go
I say I won't catch another breath of life
I dream of sheltering the ones who need help
I try to hang on to the rope of life
I hope I will never loosen my grip
I am an empty apartment

This is another assinment my english teacher gave me, interview an immigrant. The man I interviewed was named Lupe. The interview is as follows

Me: So, who did you come to America with?
Lupe: I took my wife and my son. He was only a baby at the time.
Me: Why did you come to America?
Lupe: Well, it's a long story. You see, my mom was sick so my dad came to get a job and send her money. After a few months, he stoped sending money. So I set off to find him and get a job myself.
Me: What hardships did you experienced?
Lupe: Well, when we entered the second dessert, we were cased by coyotes. One bit my leg. We threw our food and they left with it.
Me:What else do you remember before you got here?
Lupe: Well, when we were leaving Mexico city, a farmer stoped us on the road. He was driving by on his truck. He gave us food and gave me a sage that healed my leg.
Me: Ok, last question. Did you find your dad?
Lupe: I did. Do you want to know why he stoped sending money to my mom? Well, it is because he had another family over here.
Me: So, was it worth comeing over?
Lupe: Yes it was. I have a good job, a loving family, and my mom is feeling better.

Medal of Honor

The Medal of Honor

Did you ever wondered what our flag represent? I believe the flag represents freedom and equality. What about freedom? What does it really mean? I believe freedom means that everyone has an equal sure of what there is to get. So then, what is the Medal of Honor?

Well, to me, the Medal of Honor is the highest award given to an american soldier. It is such an important award that even the presedent has to salute you when he sees you. That shows that even the presedent should respect you. The medal also shows that the awardee is a hero.

I think to recive the Medal of Honor, you have to show acts of courage and selflessness. On the battle field, the awardees had shown courage when they engaged the enemy, even if the chance of survival was at its slimest. There were also some soldiers that helped their wounded comrades, even when that soldier was wounded himself. They were all afraid, but they stood their ground and continued to do their job.

I have heard some of the awardees say that it was easier to win the Medal of Honor that it is too wear it. I think that they say this because seeing the medal reminds them of that battle. They may remember the fact that one of their friends died. They might also remember all the bad thoughts going through their mind. Or maybe they just arn't use to the fact that everyone has to salute them.

So, the Medal of Honor is the highest award given to an american soldier. It is a sign that the peson wearing it has the respect of others.Although the person might not like to wear it for whatever reason. That is what the Medal of Honor means to me.

Alfred Rascon

ALFRED V. RASCON
Rank and organization:Specialist Four, U.S. Army, Reconnaissance Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry,173d Airborne Brigade (Separate)
Place and date:Republic of Vietnam, March 16, 1966
Entered service at: ----
Born:1945, Chihuahua, Mexico
Citation:
Specialist Four Alfred Rascon, distinguished himself by a series of extraordinarily courageous acts on March 16, 1966, while assigned as a medic to the Reconnaissance Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 503rd Infantry, 173d Airborne Brigade (Separate). While moving to reinforce its sister battalion under intense enemy attack, the Reconnaissance Platoon came under heavy fire from a numerically superior enemy force. The intense enemy fire from crew-served weapons and grenades severely wounded several point squad soldiers. Specialist Rascon, ignoring directions to stay behind shelter until covering fire could be provided, made his way forward. He repeatedly tried to reach the severely wounded point machine-gunner laying on an open enemy trail, but was driven back each time by the withering fire. Disregarding his personal safety, he jumped to his feet, ignoring flying bullets and exploding grenades to reach his comrade. To protect him from further wounds, he intentionally placed his body between the soldier and enemy machine guns, sustaining numerous shrapnel injuries and a serious wound to the hip. Disregarding his serious wounds he dragged the larger soldier from the fire-raked trail. Hearing the second machine-gunner yell that he was running out of ammunition, Specialist Rascon, under heavy enemy fire crawled back to the wounded machine-gunner stripping him of his bandoleers of ammunition, giving them to the machine-gunner who continued his suppressive fire. Specialist Rascon fearing the abandoned machine gun, its ammunition and spare barrel could fall into enemy hands made his way to retrieve them. On the way, he was wounded in the face and torso by grenade fragments, but disregarded these wounds to recover the abandoned machine gun, ammunition and spare barrel items, enabling another soldier to provide added suppressive fire to the pinned-down squad. In searching for the wounded, he saw the point grenadier being wounded by small arms fire and grenades being thrown at him. Disregarding his own life and his numerous wounds, Specialist Rascon reached and covered him with his body absorbing the blasts from the exploding grenades, and saving the soldier's life, but sustaining additional wounds to his body. While making his way to the wounded point squad leader, grenades were hurled at the sergeant. Again, in complete disregard for his own life, he reached and covered the sergeant with his body, absorbing the full force of the grenade explosions. Once more Specialist Rascon was critically wounded by shrapnel, but disregarded his own wounds to continue to search and aid the wounded. Severely wounded, he remained on the battlefield, inspiring his fellow soldiers to continue the battle. After the enemy broke contact, he disregarded aid for himself, instead treating the wounded and directing their evacuation. Only after being placed on the evacuation helicopter did he allow aid to be given to him. Specialist Rascon's extraordinary valor in the face of deadly enemy fire, his heroism in rescuing the wounded, and his gallantry by repeatedly risking his own life for his fellow soldiers are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.[5]

I would thank Alfred because he was a medic in the war. He was a hero for risking his life to heal or tend to the wounds of others, even under heavy gun fire.

"I Have A Dream" Quote

The quote that I responded to was
" Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst from the cup of bitterness and hatred"

To me this means that people should not get what they want with violence. Poeple should not use violence to get what they are striving for. It was important to the crowd because Martin Luther King wanted to say that the black poeple should not get there freedom from fighting and chaos.
