I am a harsh cord of love
I wonder when I will see your star eyes again
I hear the bells of heaven ringing in your voice
I see the cool blue beach we use to go to
I want this war to end so I can see you
I am a harsh cord of love

I pretend to be a leader
I feel my heart beating a drum of love
I touch the small peble of memories you gave me
I worry that I might see the face of death before I see you
I cry if I think of you with another man
I am a harsh cord of love

I understand from you "dear John" letters that we are just friends
I say that you are just hiding your true feelings
I dream of our silhouettes walking together on the beach
I try to hold on to the rope of life
I hope you are still a pure virgin
